The SSCPTA extends our warmest gratitude to the more than 300 parents from S1 to S6 and 20 school representatives — including Principal Mrs. Ma, four deputy principals, three assistant principals, and teachers — who came together for our first major event of the academic year.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the over one hundred parents, four teachers, and Assistant Principal Mrs. Kwok for attending the Parent-Teacher Association's first parent seminar of the new school year on the Mid-Autumn Festival evening (September 24th). Special thanks also to Mr. Ringo Ng for his insightful presentation, "Parenting for Teenagers: On E-Generation," which provided parents with an inspiring sharing session. The seminar was packed, requiring extra folding chairs to accommodate more parents, demonstrating the importance parents place on parent-child communication. The seminar content was insightful and practical, greatly benefiting the parents, with some expressing their hope to hear Mr. Ng Wing-kwong's seminar again in the future.
The seminar emphasized that discipline should not only address symptoms but also identify the root cause to truly solve the problem. We must understand our children's stress and their true needs, reflecting on why they are always on their phones. Secondly, leading by example and "Me Time" are equally important; parents should not only set a good example but also manage their own emotions to have the energy to accompany their children. Finally, when communicating, it is advisable to address emotions first, then reason, responding with empathy. The speaker also shared a communication tip: paraphrase what the child says to make them feel understood. May we bring these lessons home, readjust, and build better parent-child relationships.
